The New Bc Ferries Cable ferry in full service
The Baynes Sound Connector entered full service in February 2016.
The new cable ferry was built by Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards and will replace the Quinitsa, the current vessel on the route. The regular schedule remains in effect.
The Baynes Sound Connector has superior environmental performance, using less than half the fuel of the Quinitsa. Operating the cable ferry in place of a regular vessel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 480 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually, equal to taking 100 cars off the road every year. The cable ferry operates with reduced noise, 23 decibels below the noise level of the Quinitsa. BC Ferries is committed to safeguarding and improving the environment, and finding new ways to improve the sustainability of our operations. The vessel will be based at the Denman West Terminal!
